Objectives:To determine the ultraviolet spectrum of24kinds of medicinal plants and analysis the first-order derivative spectrum and second-order derivative spectrum. Then cluster analysis the transformed data. Discuss the relationship between the traditional classification and the chemical compositions. To provide gist to accurately authenticate the Sonhus oleraceus L., Cirsium japonicum Fisch. Ex. DC., Lindernia crustacea (L) F. Muell and Meconopsis punica Maxim..Methods:Collect and record the24kinds of medicinal plants. Confirm the taxonomic status of different species by the traditional classification, and extract the medicinal materials. Then determine the ultraviolet spectrum of these medicinal materials. Analysis the first-order derivative spectrum and second-order derivative spectrum. Cluster analysis the transformed data and get the tree diagrams. Results:The leaves of Sonchus L. is fickle in vegetative period, it is very difficult to authenticate. S. arvensis and S. uliginosus are distinguished based on the head-shaped glandular hairs with handle, sawteeth or small apex of the edge of lobed leaves, but the transition has both of the sawteeth and small apex, it is very difficule to authenticate all three by ultraviolet original spectrum. But after disposed by the first-order derivative, the transition in accordance with S. uliginosus and can easily distinguished with S. arvensis, it supports the viewpoint that the glandular hairs of the outside of phyllary should be used as the gist to classify and authenticate. The viewpoint that S. lingianus and S. oleraceus are clustered to one group, the S. asper and the above two clustered to one group is in accordance with the traditional classification. The result of the cluster analysis of first-order derivative spectrum and second-order derivative spectrum is the same and it shows that the difference of chemical composition between the species of Sonchus L. is small. The tree diagram of first-order derivative ultraviolet spectrum of Lindernia All. is in accordance with the taxonomic status of species of traditional classification. L. angustifolia and L. anagallis are cluster to one group and the L. antipoda with L. ruellioides are cluster to one group. L. procumbens with above four cluster to one group. Besides, L. Crustacea and L. numularifolia are cluster to one group. These results are in accordance with the traditional classification, it shows that the total chemical composition and otherness have close relationship with the genetic relationship between species of Lindernia All.. The result of cluster analysis of first-order derivative ultraviolet spectrum of Meconopsis Vig. shows that M. quintuplinrvia and M. punica are cluster to one group, the M. henrici cluster to above two; M. integrifolia and M. racemosa cluster are cluster to one group, but the relationship is relative distant, it support the viewpoint that the medicinal plant are divided into groups, series and species. It provides a efficient method to authenticate M. punica, M. integrifolia, M. henrici and M. Quintuplinervia. The result of cluster analysis of first-order derivative spectrum and second-order derivative spectrum of Cirsium Mill.emend.Scop. Shows that the difference between chemical composition and genetic relationship is great, the reason is that the interspecific sorted gist is less and the intraspecific difference is great, besides, the interspecific characteristics is chiasmal during the vegetative period. O.leucopgylla is a kind of medicinal plant of Olgaea Iljin, but it and C.setosum are cluster to one group, and the C. leducei with above two cluster to one group, O.leucopgylla is in the status of Cirsium Mill.emend.Scop..It shows that the ultraviolet spectroscopy is ill-suited for the genetic relationship analysis when the species of genera are many and the intraspecific variation is great. But there is evident difference of ultraviolet spectrum between C. japonicum and its similar species (C. leducei, C. leo). Conclusions:The chemical compositions of Sonchus L., Lindernia All.and Meconopsis Vig. have close relationship with its genetic relationship, the cluster analysis of ultraviolet spectrum provids scientific gist to discuss the interspecific evolution laws. The first-order derivative spectroscopy can be used as a way to authenticate S. oleraceus and its similar species, L. crustacea and its similar species, M. punica and its similar species. There is great difference between the result of clustering analysis of Cirsium Mill.emend.Scop. and the traditional classification, and the reason is that the kinds of species of sample is less and the intraspecific difference is great, but it can be used to authenticate the C. japonicum and its similar species.
