Objective:Through the analysis of the effect of mirror therapy about the upper limbsof the elder stroke patient, we want to find the effective treatment methods inimproving the upper limb function of the elderly stroke patients.Methods:60cases of hospitalized elderly patients were randomly divided into A, Btwo groups. Each group is30patients.Group A is the control group, which istraining with the transparent plastic sheet instead of the mirror therapy. GroupB is the experimental group using mirror therapy. Both of them were givenconventional rehabilitation training. The B group of conventional rehabilitationtraining at the same time also combined mirror therapy. Two groups were usedthe Fugl-meyer (FMA) of upper limb motor function, upper limb exercise testevaluation (ARAT), modified Barthel index (MBI) to evaluate the curativeeffect of the patients in prior treatment and4weeks of post-treatment.Results:Before treating,2groups were compared in many aspects such as gender, age, course of disease, stroke, and hemiplegia type.Based on this, we foundno statistically significant differences (P>0.05). 1. Comparing the mirror therapy group to control group before andafter treatment in functions of the upper limbsAfter4weeks treatment,2groups of FMA,ARAT,MAS scores wereincreased compared with prior treatment (P<0.05), and group B washigher than group A (P<0.05).2.Comparison of the mirror therapy group and control group beforeand after treatment in activities of daily livingAfter4weeks treatment,2groups of MBI scores were increasedcompared with prior treatment (P<0.05), and group B was higher thangroup A (P<0.05).3.The collection of the sEMG in the treatment groupwe found that every peak EMG signal collected by the wrist action wasincreased more highly than before treatment. Conclusion:Patients who were treated with conventional rehabilitation training andmirror therapy could effectively improve the motor function of upper limbs inelderly patients with hemiplegia, shorten the course of the treatment, andgreatly improve their activities of daily living. The curative effect of combinedtreatment is represented significantly,so that the patients can earlier returnhome and return to the society.
