| With the coming of information society, information now ranks the third majorresources after the material and energy resources, it becomes the key factor whichdetermines social productivity, competitiveness and economic development. Medicalscience as the world’s fastest growing and most promising discipline, brings themedical students new challenges to their medical information literacy. In recent years,information seeking behavior is no longer limited to build the theoretical models andstart to explore the differences among the individual difference, different environment,context, cognitive styles, self-efficacy and information seeking behavior. Although thedevelopment of the study on cognitive psychology is rapidly, there is no quantitivestudy on how information anxiety, achievement motivation influence informationseeking behavior, especially on the medical students.In this study, we investigated the medical student’s personal status, informationanxiety, achievement motivation and information seeking behavior, usingquestionnaires with three scales. Data entry were completed by Epidata3.1andstatistical analysis were SPSS11.5. We explored the information seeking behavior’sinfluence factors by using variance analysis and t-test analysis, we also examined therelationship among information anxiety, achievement motivation and informationseeking behavior by using correlation analysis and multiple linear regression analysis.The findings show that information anxiety has statistical differences(p<0.05) ingender, student-origin, and ethnic, and female students, rural students and HanNationality score higher; achievement motivation has statistical differences in gradesand discipline. Higher the Grade, lower the score they get. The student of radiationmedicine and medical information management have significant difference.Information seeking behavior has statistical difference in discipline, student-origin,only child or not, and whether taken information literacy education. Students frommedical information management, urban students, and students who had taken theinformation literacy education score higher.There is a significant negative correlation(p<0.01) between Information anxietyand achievement motivation. There is a significant negative correlation(p<0.01)between information anxiety and information seeking behavior. There is a significant positive correlation(p<0.01) between achievement motivation and informationseeking behavior.Multiple linear regression analysis shows that S-quality of searching system,whether taken Information literacy education, motivation of achieving success,N-Information need and only child or not can explain the15%variation ofinformation seeking behavior.This study investigated the current status of medical students’ informationanxiety, achievement motivation, and information seeking behavior. Then we exploredthe features and correlation among them, and we build a structural equation model.We discussed the influence factors of information seeking behavior and expecting wecan give some advices on improving medical students’ information seeking behavior. |
