ObjectiveTo discuss the characteristics and methods of repairing large area of wounds and soft tissue defects over face and neck with exposed vessels, muscles, and bone by using neck, shoulder and chest local random pattern skin flap.MethodsRetrospectively summarize one case of skin and soft tissue defects combined with exposed blood vessels, bone and muscle caused by severe trauma on face and neck region in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgical Department, the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University. Summarize the characteristic of surgical techniques by using neck, shoulder and chest local random pattern skin flap in reconstruction of large defects in face and neck region.ResultsNeck, shoulder and chest local random pattern skin flap was used to repair wounds of the patient. The skin flap had a good blood supply and survived well postoperatively. One month follow-up showed that the local skin in the operative area healed well. No bleeding, no swelling was noted. The skin flap appearance and texture was satisfied and well functioning.ConclusionIn patient with large area of face and neck injury associated with seriously complicated systemic injury, repairing the exposed neck tissue by using neck, shoulder and chest local random pattern skin flap in emergency operation can not only prevent aggravating infection but also can maximize the recovery of the anatomical and physiological functions after operation. For these patients who had undergone one-step surgical repair can not only shorten the hospital stay, reduce suffering and economic burden of the patient but also it is time-saving for post-traumatic clinical treatment and rehabilitation after injury.
