| Objective To analysis the risk factors of depression in patients with PE from thepsychological perspective of sexual partners. It will provide important clues and seek areasonable, effective and individual psychological treatment for premature ejaculation.Methods A total of1807patients with PE and their sexual partners were enrolled andrequired to complete a questionnaire from January2010to January2012, whichincluded demographic information, depressive symptoms of PE patients and theirpartners and factors associated with female partners. All patients and their spousesparticipated in the survey were≥18years of age, with six months or more sustained andstable sexual history. The patients who have severe mental illness and (or) had taken thelead ejaculatory dysfunction drugs will be excluded. In this study, the questionnaireswere used (including information on basic demographic characteristics, sexual functionand mental conditions, SDS, etc.). The questionnaire for female partners also includesthe measures of Patient-Reported Outcome. Diagnosis of PE is mainly based on theISSM proposed diagnostic criteria, including (1) ejaculation time≤1min;(2) the abilityto control ejaculation decreased;(3) anxiety, depression and other associated symptoms.Results The prevalence of depression in PE patients (mean age:30.17±10.09) and theirsexual partners (mean age:27.61±9.54) were32.32%and32.69%, respectively. Theseverities of depression in patients with PE were mild54.97%,31.85%moderate andsevere13.18%. The sexual partners of depression severities were51.51%,30.98%moderate and severe18.52%.Several factors including “Attitude toward PEâ€,“Severityof depressionâ€,“Satisfaction with intercourse†and “Severity of interpersonal difficulty†were associated with depression in patients with PE. Furthermore, patients with PE athigh risk of depression were significantly associated with several psychological factors,including “Attitude toward PE(moderately and negative)â€,“Partners’ depression (mildto severe)â€,“Satisfaction with intercourse (fair to very poor)†and “Interpersonaldifficulty (a little bit to extremely)â€.Conclusions PE patients and their sexual partners are associated with psychologicalproblems. The negative psychological issues will affect the degrees of PE. Severalpartners’ psychological factors including “Attitude toward PEâ€,“Severity ofdepressionâ€,“Satisfaction with intercourse†and “Severity of interpersonal difficultyâ€might be associated with depression in patients with PE. Analyzing the risks factors fordepression from the perspective of sexual partners is great of significance to detect thepsychological problem in men with PE. Patients sexual partner "hold the negative orneutral attitude,""mild to severe depressive symptoms,""generally satisfied with theirsex lives to very dissatisfied" and a "minor interpersonal communication disorders tosevere communication disorder" were the risks of depression in patients with PE. |
