Objective To investigate the correlation between the expression of sodium-iodide symporter(NIS) and the characteristics of ultrasonography in differentiated thyroid carcinoma(DTC).Method DTC and nodular goiter paraffin-embedded tissue were collected to detect the expression of NIS and analyze the corelation between the positive expression of NIS and the characteristics of the thyroid ultrasonography, using immunohistochemical staining. Results NIS expression of both PTC group and FTC group were more nodular goiter group. Significant difference was detected in IHS of NIS expression PTC (papillary thy-roid carcinoma) group and FTC(follicular thyroid carcinoma) group (P<0.05), while no statistical difference was found in positive rate of NIS expression between the two groups (P>0.05). According to thyroid ultrasonic findings,PTC group showed smaller diameter, higher rate of hypoechoic, irregular, ill-defined,calcification and blood flow than that in FTC group (P<0.05)..No significant difference was found between NIS positive group and NIS negative group in FTC patients on ultrasonography, while distinct blood flow signal degree was detected between the two group in PTC patients. Conclusion There is statistical difference in both the IHS of NIS expression and some thyroid ultrasonic findings between PTC and FTC,and there is no relationship between NIS expression and ultrasonic findings in DTC group.
