Objectives To provide theoretical guidelines for exploring new training mode of rural pharmacist in township hospitals for Gansu Province based on the literature analysis of pharmacist training modes and the prevalence survey on current situation of Gansu township hospitals pharmacists training: to get a comprehensive understanding of Chinese current situation on primary pharmacy staff training modes and gain experience for Gansu province, and comparative analysis to the current training mode’s problems of Gansu township pharmacists’training which were got from the prevalence survey.Methods This study combines original research with secondary research, qualitative with quantitative research methods. Firstly, With the search strategies predefined by repeated discuss and pre-retrieval, the literature in Chinese published were searched in the following4Chinese databases, CNKI, VIP, WANFANG and CBM database. According with strict inclusion and exclusion criteria, we screened and evaluated all research papers and extracted the data. The quality of researches was assessed by the evaluation criteria (JBI,2005). A literature data extraction table was designed to evaluate articles, and this table includes information such as journal type, survey area and so on. Secondly, field survey and interviews methods were used to get a comprehensive understanding of primary pharmacists training in Gansu. The survey’s objects are primary pharmacy staff in township hospitals of Gansu, and the interviews objects are the pharmacists and leaders in township hospitals, and the experts, organizers, training personals of the pharmacy training. According to the management process theory, there are5processes on the management of the primary pharmacy staff training’s entire implementation-planning, organizing, practice, controlling and feedback. The problems in the township hospitals pharmacists training in Gans(?) were analyzed based on these five processes, and so were the new training mode.Results Initially264documents were retrieved and18were included after reading full text in the systematic review stage. The quantity of the included literatures showed an upward trend. The provinces of the practice noticed are involved14, and fewer literatures in northwest, south and the Qinghai-Tibet region in China. After evaluation, only3papers are in grade A, accounted for16.67%;4papers are in grade B, accounted22.22%;11papers only get to be grade C, which accounted for61.11%. In field survey and interviews stage, a total of1,265township hospitals’ pharmacy staff were investigated, and15primary pharmacists,5leadership in township hospitals, and16training organizers and teachers were interviewed. Main problems of primary physicians training mode in Gansu were identified after survey and interview clients. All these problems appeared in different training stages. A complete primary physicians training mode in Gansu was proposed, after combining the scientific evidence with Gansu’s situation, as well as management process view.Conclusions A complete primary physicians training mode in Gansu was proposed, after combining the scientific evidence with Gansu’s situation, as well as management process view--A clear plan and training programs in the planning stages, and more attention needs to be paid on the training of primary pharmacists; a unified organization to integrate the educational resources effectively which needs focusing on quality evaluation and assessment standards on the organizing stage; the innovation of training methods and contents can be the key points of practice stage, and the existing resources currently need to be rational used, as the role of large general hospitals and medical colleges; well control and feedback from training receivers throughout the whole management process.
