| Gastric cancer continues to be a highly aggressive malignancy with poor prognosis and survival rates. Although there have been various prognostic factors of gastric cancer reported, the effectiveness of these factors is still under investigation.Objective:1ã€To probe the expression of COX-2, PCNA, P53, MDR, SSTR-2 and EGFR in gastric carcinoma tissues and their clinicopathologic significance. 2ã€To observe the additive effect of Shenqi Fuzheng Injection when combined with adjuvant chemotherapy in the treatment of gastric cancer. Methods: 1ã€The author retrospectively analyzed the history as well as the paraffin tissue of 85 gastric carcinoma patients who had received surgical resection in Drum Tower Hospital, especially the expression of COX-2, PCNA, P53, MDR, SSTR-2 and EGFR protein and various clinicopathologic parameters of gastric cancer. And the relationship between the immunohistochemistry markers and the clinicopathologic parameters was analyzed using SPSS 13.0;2ã€48 patients with gastric cancer were divided into 2 groups to received adjuvant chemotherapy after surgical resection, namely the combined therapy group(Shenqi Fuzheng Injection +chemotherapy ) and the chemotherapy group, with 24 patients in each group. Data about the QOL in both groups were collected during the 6 weeks so that the effect of the injection could be effectively assessed. Results: 1ã€COX-2 expression was significantly related to the size of tumor, the depth of invasion, the tumor invasion of lymphovascular, Lauren grouping and clinical stage (P<0.05). PCNA expression was significantly related to carcinoma differentiation, depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis and clinical stage(P<0.05). P53 expression was significantly related to carcinoma differentiation, depth of invasion and lymph node metastasis (P<0.05). SSTR-2 expression was significantly related to carcinoma differentiation, depth of invasion and clinical stage(P<0.05). MDR expression in early gastric carcinoma was significantly lower compared to advanced gastric carcinoma, and was related to nerve encroachment and lymph node metastasis(P<0.05). The expression of EGFR was positively correlated to years of age, depth of invasion and lymph node metastasis (P<0.05); 2ã€The QOL of the combined group was better than the control group, the side effects were milder in the combined group. Conclusion: The expression of all the six immunohistochemistry markers were related to some of the clinicopathologic parameters with statistical significance. As a result, they could be used as promising prognostic factors for gastric carcinoma. Shenqi Fuzheng Injection could help patients to maintain their physical strength and relieve the side effect of chemotherapy. The injiection thus could be used as a good Traditional Chinese medicine in combination of chemotherapy of gastric cancer. |
