The late Ming and early Qing Gonganhuaben refers to the vernacular shortnovels from Tianqi days of the Ming Dynasty to the middle of Kangxi days of theQing Dynasty, which exist in the “Sanyan Erpai”and many other Huaben novel works,and mainly describe the forming and settling of the courtcase in terms of theme andcontent. As an important part of the late Ming and early Qing Huaben novel works,The late Ming and early Qing Gonganhuaben have unique values for research. Thisthesis takes the late Ming and early Qing Gonganhuaben as the object of research, andis divided into four parts: First, we will discriminate some related concepts, clarify theboundaries so that the object of research is determined, which will lay the foundationfor the all of research. Secondly, basing on statistics of them, the thesis will analyzeand categorize the late Ming and early Qing Gonganhuaben according to the legalrelationship, which will show what topics the people in that period concern. Thirdly,we will concentrate on the feature of the late Ming and early Qing Gonganhuaben,and we will see that they have distinct feather of the times, thought and artcharacteristic which carry on as well as change the older, and fantastic culturalconnotation Finally, combing with the history of court verdict and the Gongannovel,we will make an analysis of characteristics and functions of the court verdictin the late Ming and early Qing Gonganhuaben. Through this thesis, we will point outthat the court verdict, which is so brief and clear, has many unique functions innarrative, literary and argument. To be mentioned, we should not ignore the influencefrom the times and the history when the court verdict kept the form called Pianpan.
