| With the development of computer technology, the computer has been widely usedin various fields. Computer Assisted Language Learning has enlarged to listen, speak,read and write. In order to achieve better teaching effectiveness, more and more schoolsbegan to reform their English teaching method by computer technology and multimediatechnology. At present, there are many researches on the computer-assisted languageteaching’s usage situation in colleges and universities, especially for the teaching effectthat under the multimedia teaching environment. But most researches focus on theundergraduate English teaching while rare of them for the postgraduate English teaching.In addition, the motivation is also an important factor to language learners’ learningeffect. As the widely use of computer-assisted language learning, what is the learner’smotivation, especially for the postgraduate student under this new teaching mode need afurther study. In this background, from the learner’s motivation and combined with the relatedmotivational theories, this thesis has a questionnaire survey on the non-English majorpostgraduates’ motivation under multimedia teaching background in Yan’an University.The objects of this thesis are the Non-English Major Graduates,2012. The questionnairerefers to the Dornyei’s theory and the college students’ English learning motivationalquestionnaire by Qin (2002) and Gao (2003). Considering the research background, theauthor final selected42motivational questions. These motivational questions are mainlyinvolves four levels, namely language level, learner level, learning situation andmotivational behavior. These four levels can be subdivided into nine parts, namely,internal motivation, external motivation, attribution, language anxiety, learning situation,self-efficacy, individual needs, expectancy-value and motivational behavior. Thequestionnaires were analyzed by SPSS statistical software from descriptive statistics,T-test statistics. In this thesis, it mainly analyze the non-English major postgraduates’motivational characteristics and intensity in Yan’an University, the students’ motivationchanges after the experimental teaching, the multimedia teaching situation in Yan’anUniversity, and understand non-English major graduates’ attitude for multimedia teachingthrough an interview. By qualitative and quantitative research, the results are as follow:First, the main motivation type of non-English major graduates is the instrumentalmotivation and learning situation motivation. The intensity of the overall motivation is amedium level in Yan’an University.Second, the factors that affect the postgraduates’ English learning motivation inYan’an University are internal motivation, external motivation, casual attribution,language anxiety, learning situation, self-efficacy, individual need, expectancy-value,motivational behavior, especially the external motivation and learning situation. After theteaching experiment under CALL teaching mode, the overall motivation of theexperimental class were increased, while there was no significant change in the controlclass which taught by the traditional teaching mode.Third, Most students showed a positive attitude toward the multimedia teaching.Fourth, the multimedia teaching has a mature condition in Yan’an University, andteachers also have relevant skills in courseware production Finally, on the basis of these researches, this thesis gives some suggestions on howto strengthen the non-English major postgraduates’ learning motivation in furtherteaching. |
