The Comparability Of Apology Expression Used In Appreciation Situations Between Japanese And Chinese

Learning how to express the appreciation is certainly one of the basic routine when foreigners come to Japan. Different language has its own expression form of appreciation. However, as the difference of national culture and language specification, the appreciation expression manner differs from each other on terminology characteristics. Especially, Japanese usually use apology style such as "すみません" to covey gratitude, which are difficult to understand in Chinese custom. It is quite normal mistake that“不好意思”,one of the Chinese apology style for appreciation, is directly translated as "おそわいります" and "けあしい". The situation that mistaken language expression in certain scene are applied because of language dislocation results learners’confusing and even the misunderstanding of Chinese and Japanese peoples Intercultural Communication.Therefore, to avoid the communication barriers led by the difference, Chinese and Japanese apology style for appreciation, taking "すみません" and“不好意思”as examples were studied based on Chinese spoken people and Chinese spoken people. Questionnaire and interview were collected from different genders, ages, relationship and psychology and so on. The real conditions of use, orientation and psychology were summarized to analyze the reason from cultural and social perspective.The result showed that Chinese and Japanese apology style for appreciation had apparent difference on forms and psychology during the same circumstance, which was mentioned in chapter4. Based on the survey of cultural background on apology style for appreciation, shame culture, longitudinal type social sequence consciousness, and tribalism in Japanese culture and old respecting and individualism in Chinese culture were compared and analyzed.
