| Reading Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass and Saichinga’s major works from the perspective of comparative literature, readers will find out that the American poet and the Mongolian poet of China share many similarities on poetic Works. Based on the comparison of two poets’ poems on poetic themes and styles, this thesis comes to a conclusion that Saichinga was influenced by Walt Whitman in literary creation and supports the point by textual analysis.This thesis consists of an introduction, the main body and a conclusion. Its contents are as follows:The first part is an introduction. Chapter One presents the reason and need for this study, the research methods of this study, and the significance and new insights of this study. Chapter Two is a brief introduction to Walt Whitman and Saichinga as well as their works. Chapter Three is a part for literature review, discussing the current situation of this research field at home and abroad.The second part is the main body, which is made up of two chapters:Chapter Four makes a comparison of poetic themes between Walt Whitman and Saichinga. The two poets share many similarities on poetic themes:their advocacy of democracy, equality and freedom, their love for their respective mother countries and great leaders, and their celebration of nature as well as industrialization and technological progress are strikingly similar.Chapter Five conducts a comparison of poetic styles between Walt Whitman and Saichinga. The two poets are both great innovators of poetic styles. Walt Whitman created the free verse for American poetry and Saichinga opened the new era for modern Mongolian poetry. The two poets share many similarities on poetic styles:the use of the language, rhetorical devices, and imagery in their poems are strikingly similar.The third part is a conclusion. Interpreting the underlying reasons for the similarities between Walt Whitman and Saichinga, this part comes to a conclusion that Walt Whitman influenced Saichunga a lot on literary creation. |
