Motivation of character and words is the foundation from which things and phenomenon get the name; it is the existing inner link between expression form and meaning of character and words. Chinese language is of high motivation. Motivation of character and words plays a role which cannot be ignored in vocabulary teaching of Chinese as a foreign language.In the teaching of intensive reading class, I deeply feel that using teaching methodology of motivation to teach those character and words which have motivation can arouse student’s interest, enlarge their vocabulary, and enhance the teaching efficiency, so as to let student learn faster and clearer. Thus, from the perspective of teaching, taking book five of New Practical Chinese Reader Text Book as the example, I take a statistic analysis of character and words in its glossary, form a table of character and words according to types of motivation, and make teaching suggestion to the character and words which have motivation.This thesis is divided into four parts:First, it sketches research’s history, current situation of motivation of character and words and significance of this thesis. Second, it sketches motivation of character and words and its research method. Third, it takes a statistic analysis aiming at character and words of book five of New Practical Chinese Reader Text Book, collects them into a table of motivation of character and words, and specifies the types of motivation of character and words, then makes a discuss of it in the aspect of teaching. Fourth, it concludes ideas and contents of this thesis, and points out innovation and deficiency of it.
