| As an important part of language, vague language is indispensable in diplomatic activities. In recent years, since communications between different countries have been more and more frequent, the interpretation of foreign affairs has turned into an essential tool for the exchange of information among governments. The study of interpretation methods for vague language in foreign affairs also has become the latest research subject. For that reason, the author makes a systematic analysis on how interpreters interpret the vague language on the occasion of foreign affairs.Based on the theory of literal translation and free translation, the article develops four translation strategies namely word for word translation; addition, reduction and conversion. The article chooses five Chinese-English translation manuscripts of Premier Wen at press conferences. Some interpretation rules and skills are summarized through the analysis on these manuscripts. The author hopes the analysis can further shows the significance of vague language’s interpretation in foreign affairs and makes contribution to promote the level of the interpretation on foreign affairs. |
