Before variable coating used for lacquer painting, it is an important technique in Chinese traditional lacquer art and it had ever been spread to Japan. Firstly, This article takes the application of variable coating in lacquer painting as the research target and applies concept analysis method to distinct the conception of variable coating. Secondly, in order to search the origins and history of variable coating the author of this article utilizes literature survey method. Thirdly, the author applies observation and experience method to the clarification of figurative art performance and abstract art performance and image art performance in variable coating of lacquer painting. In the end, this article probes into the visual language traits of variable coating, thus the author draws the conclusion that variable coating is no longer a simple techniques which Lacquer Decorations referred, a new art form had been created as variable coating integrated with contemporary lacquer painting. Today variable coating already has its unique ideology in the context of contemporary, and the visual effect which comes from the control of ideology, it brings viewers a huge shock in their heart.
