Sound-mass, what was generated at the beginning of the20th century and began to be widely used in works of Acoustic Music in1960s and1970s, is one of the the most significant techniques to make music to be acoustic.Firstly, the writer of this article extracted the narrow definition of sound-mass from the generalized one, and investigated the narrow definition thoroughly. And then, to compared the narrow definition of sound-mass with some other conceptions such as Tone-clusters, Micro-polyphony. Finally, find out relations and differences among them.Secondly, the author explored the classification of the narrow definition of sound-mass and divided the sound-mass in three different categories. First, in sound category, there are noisy sound-mass, musical sound-mass, micro tone sound-mass. Second, in category of counterpoints, there are precise sound-mass and non-precision sound-mass. Third, in category of materials, there are "materials which have independent significant in structure" and "materials have not independent significant in structure".Hence, the classification could make the definition clearly.Following this, the author analyzed the tridimensional sound-mass. Because of the complete liberation of the musical elements (pitch, rhythm, timbre, dynamics, etc.), therefore, the phenomenon of the appearance of the tridimensional sound-mass is common. What is more, the stereo of sound-mass is mainly reflected in two aspects:on the one hand, it may have its root in the similarity of music itself; On the other hand, it may have its root in the specific character of sound-mass. In brief, the similarity of music itself means the "contraposition of structure", while the specific character of sound-mass refers to its "depth of sound".
