This article will be positioned in the period of the Roman Republic,taking thepatriarchal supremacy as the new perspective, through the research of familyeducation in the Roman republic period, to deepen our understanding of the earlysocial systems and family education in the West, thus appreciate the importantpractical significance of family education on children’s growth and the nation’s future.In addition to the preface and the conclusion, this article consists of three parts:The first part discusses the overview of the Roman Republic, including theprofiles of republic Roman family, education, along with the performances and thereasons in these two areas.The second part discusses the main content. In The Roman Republic, the fatherhad a significant impact on family education. Mainly reflected in that the father borethe primary responsibility for education; the education form mainly was father’seducation by precept and example as well as the corporal punishment education underpatriarchy.The third part mainly discusses the education content in the Roman RepublicPeriod under the patriarchy, including the military and agricultural education, themoral and language education, and to obey the law and patriarchy; in the role of thepatriarchal family education in shaping the Romans pragmatic, brave, industrious,strong national spirit, cultivate the patriotic feelings of the people of Rome, and theconstruction of Rome after the Republic gradually embarked on the road of theEmpire the role and influence.Family education, as an important part of society to cultivate qualified citizens,has a pivotal position in the socio-cultural and family life. During The RomanRepublic period, father, as the absolute manager in a family, in the family educationof children, not only was teacher, partner, master and apprentice, but also wasmanager and leader.From a small city-state beside Tiber River to the empire across theMediterranean, and from the prosperity of Roman Kingdom to the ruins of the Empire,children’s growth and education, as the responsibility of governing and prosperous,always running through them, to play its due role.
