| With the development of globalization, people pay more and more attention to interpretingfor it can be regarded as a bridge between Chinese and foreign language in cross-culturalcommunication. In2012, as an interpreter in China‘s educational aid program for some otherdeveloping countries organized by Northeast Normal University, the author interpreted twoeducational lectures on―practice and success‖for the participants, most of whom were teachersand headmasters in their countries. In order to improve the interpretation, the author transcribesthe interpretation from the lecture recording and makes an analysis according to the transcribedtext. By analyzing the interpreting process, the author makes a retrospective comment on theinterpretation from three aspects of source text analysis, quality assessment and strategies forovercoming difficulties.This report is based on the transcript which is the analytic object from the lecture recordingof the aid program, and the retrospective research is conducted by analyzing the genuineinterpreting situation. The contents are as follows: in introduction, the importance of interpretingand relevant background information is introduced. Interpreting with its increasing utilization ineach kind of international affairs is a mediator in different languages commnucation. The authorplays a role of interpreter in educational lectures in aid program and helps the audienceovercome the language barrier under such trend. In Chapter One, source language text analysis ismade including three steps namely reading the source language text, analyzing the intention ofthe text and the interpreter and applying the translation theory. In addition, methods for qualityassessment of interpretation are adopted, such as semantic translation, communicative translationand equivalent effect. In Chapter Two, the author summarizes the interpreting process and thedifficulties encountered during interpreting with examples. Quality assessment in terms offaithfulness and smoothness with specific examples of the errors or deficiencies and merits ismade likewise. In Chapter Three, the author sums up three aspects to improve interpreting abilityin listening, memorizing and speaking as solutions. In conclusion, the author gets the idea ofwhat to do to improve interpreting ability according to this analytic report, from which the authorfinds that extra-linguistic competence is as important as linguistic competence in interpretingprocess. |
