The present study investigates the euphemism in Thai and Chinese. The goal is to demonstrate the similarities and differences between Thai and Chinese in language and culture. Meanwhile the underline reasons are illustrated based on the contrastive study on euphemism in Thai and Chinese. The contrastive study focus on the formation structure, pragmatic function and cultural connotation of euphemism in Thai and Chinese. From the formation structure perspective of the euphemism in Thai and Chinese, there are four different types of cue, includes phonetic cue, morphological cue, rhetoric cue and syntactic cue. The euphemism in Thai and Chinese also plays an important role as pragmatic function, which can be divided in four types as taboo function, polite function, disguise function and praise function. Different cultural connotation not only lead to different cultural but also to the definition of value. In addition to that, the present study discusses the similarities and differences between Thai and Chinese from the linguistic perspective. From the linguistic contrastive study, the similarities and differences between Thai and Chinese in views on religion and values are revealed to get better understanding on the characteristic of two languages.
