Samyuktagama-sutra is a compilation which published for the first time duringthe Buddhism’s history. The sutra, being the most credible Buddhist scriptures, is amust read if we would like to have a konwledge of the real Buddha Sakyamuni. Whenit come to the second compilation a hundred years later, the four more vulgar, easilyunderstanding Agama was exactly based on the content of the Samyuktagama-sutraadded with the action or the spirit of the Buddha Sakyamuni and his students.Samyuktagama-sutra is the source of other scriptures that have spead in the world,such as Mahayana, the result of sectarian differentiation of buddhism, theprofoundness of its Madhyamika and Yogacara can trace their sources in the Sutra.Moreover, comapred with the other scriptures, the spirit of the Samyuktagama-sutra isorthodox, which focus more on bonze’s practice and the ideality of far away frommetempsychosis. This is why it is a must read for every Buddhism scholar.Shariputra Thera is the most reliable student of Buddha Sakyamuni, who bearsthe name of “the student who have the most widsom”. Buddha Sakyamuni oncehighly appraised Shariputra Thera like this “Shariputra Thera can follow close to theline of Buddhism and keep the desire of what he wants. Futhermore, he has atendency to answer other’s questions.Therefore, this thesis, focusing on the analysis of the spirit of Shariputra Thera inSamyuktagama-sutra, is composed of three parts. This article is composed of threeparts. The first part mainly give a introduction of the background of ShariputraThera’s spirit, in what way Shariputra Thera think of it and how Buddhism becomeprevail during that time and influence the other Buddhism thoughts. The second partanalyzes the reasons why Shariputra Thera chooses the Buddhism as his career, aswell as introducing his status in the Buddhism. The last part mainly suggestsShariputra Thera’s contribution to the Buddhism, and Samyuktagama-sutra is thetheoretical basis of Shariputra Thera’s spirit.
