Zongshi(总是)and yizhi(一直), jiu (就) and cai (才), as well as zai (再) and you (又) are three pairs of temporal adverbs frequently used in modern Chinese. However, it’s difficult to teach foreign students to learn how to use them correctly. Based on an elaborate analysis of the three pairs of temporal adverbs and misuse of them, my this thesis put forward some corresponding teaching strategies, I hope to help foreign students quickly understand the similarities and differences between each pair of adverbs both in theory and practice and use them properly. There are eight chapters in my thesis. The first chapter introduces the purpose and significance of this paper and provides an overview of the state quo and existing problems of temporal adverb study.Chapter two, three and four provides a synthetically comparative analysis on the semantic and syntactical aspects of the three pairs of temporal adverbs.Chapter five is an questionnaire designed by referring to textbooks and exercises of TCFL(Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language), based on the daily life of foreign students,.The sixth chapter begins with a statistics analysis of the former questionnaire and obtains an general comprehension of the process and state quo of foreign students’acquisition of the three pairs of adverbs. Then on the basis of the analysis of the questionnaire and relative examples cited from HSK Dynamic Composition Corpus, the chapter concludes common mistakes made by the foreign students while using the adverbs.Based on the previous study and analysis of this paper, chapter seven presents several teaching strategies, hoping to solve the problem. In the last chapter, the paper concludes the main ideas and points need to be further developed and extended.
