The relationship between China and Japan has hit into a dead end because of the problem of "Diaoyu Island" in recent years. In2012, an investigation made by China Daily and Japanese Speech NPO shows that "because of the history and social background problem, Chinese and Japanese people vary greatly in their viewpoints as to the same problem; but both of them still have a common perspective to a certain degree because of the economic development factor. Thus the contradiction can not be avoided in the development of their relationship in the future." In short, the people in both countries lack a good impression on each other. They all think the’territory issue’ is the biggest obstacle to bilateral relations.Since the reform and opening up, China’s economic and social development has achieved a great success. However, we haven’t paid enough attention to the management of national image yet. Some Japanese scholar say there is a huge distance between Eastern Powerful Country and its national image. They believe that China’s national image is not improved with the increase of its power. The Japanese media is the key of public speech. It is the guidance of Japanese national’s thoughts and speech. Thus it is important to conduct a research on china’s image from the perspective of Japanese media. The purposes of this research are to show the cognition of Japanese media on China’s image as well as its expressions in Japan.The research object of this paper is "Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper", because it has the largest circulation in Japan. It is also the representative of Japanese media. From January1,2011to December31,2011, the author collected all the news reports about China on the website of "Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper". According to the different subjects of the reports, the author categorizes China’s national image as the image of economy, security, culture, government, national and its image in North Korea problem etc.; according to the different emotion tendency of the reports, it can be divided into positive report, neutral report and passive report.The author analyzes China’s national image on "Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper" based on the quantitative and qualitative study. Firstly, the reports are categorized and its classified quantization statistics are obtained; secondly, the contents of reports are analyzed according to these statistics, thus China’s national image in the Japanese media are summarized and categorized. At last, based on the analysis of post-war history of Japan, the author brings up some suggestions on the management of China’s national image.
