The Music Style And Historical Position Of Jazz Pianist Art Tatum

The research object of this thesis is Art Tatum,the most legendary pianist from United States of Amecrican Jazz music history,involves the basic characteristics、 formation and the influence of the later development of jazz.By this,we can study its historical position in the history of the Jazz. This paper is divided into five chapters:The first chapter is the summarize of Art Tatum’life,and explain how the pioneer influenced his music characteristics.The second chapter analyzes Art Tatum’s musical language from two aspects of harmony language and melody-development logic.The third chapter analyzes Art Tatum’s music compositon of logic,including:music structure logic\melodic material logic and harmony change logic.The fourth chapter through the comparison of Art Tatum and various jazz and classical music style,to analyze hwo Art Tatum inherited those music styles,even more making change on the base.The fifth chapter discusses how Art Tatum influences the later musicians especially the Bebop musiccians.The conclusion of this thesis is:Art Tatum’s the most famous jazz pianist of Swing age,he not only play swing and span style to the extreme,but also give birth to the bebop style.He’s the one of the greatest pianist,links between the past and future.
