Language learners should have the capability of “listening, speaking, reading, writing”skills during a language learning process. As for teaching Chinese as a foreign language(CFL), reading class is the most basic and essential to improve “reading” skill, it will createlanguage circumstance without outer influence, helping learners handle with target language.With the rapid development of information technology, the ways of reading arebecoming changed gradually. Newspaper, acted as a medium of spreading information hasfaded away, however, it has its particularity, representativeness and availability that it canpresent current social politics, life, culture and economy. It is hard to be negligible bypresenting target language and social language. Overseas students are becoming familiar withmodern vocabulary, expanding Chinese lexical resources and syntax, learning about Chineseculture through Chinese newspaper reading classes. It is really vital for overseas students.According to the investigation, there is lack of reading materials, as well as characters.There are insufficient content and media language in primary newspaper reading class, whileadvanced class has a higher quality for learners. So the intermediate class is much moresuitable for Chinese learners. This essay will classify current situation of CFL which based onTimes—Intermediate Chinese Newspaper Reading Lessons and CFL UndergraduateTextbook—Newspaper Language Lessons(For Grade Two), analyzing both content andprinciples and concluding advantages and shortages separately, as well as offering futuresupportive suggestions for compilers of newspaper reading materials.
