Study On The Words Of Weights And Measures In Ancient Times

It has been an everlasting topic for people to discuss what is limit and how to grasp thelimit. But everybody has his own understanding towards this question. From my point of view,to some extent, limit, is not only an abstract concept, but also a symbol of the ruling class whenexecuting powers, a means for the political and economical reform, a target for the nationallaws and a basic element for the development of science and technology.This thesis consists of five chapters. The mainly focus on the study of the origin, the nameof weights and measures and the development of unit words. Among which the study method ofSHIYUAN is adopted. By listing out the representative unit words concerning length, capacityand weight as many as possible，analyzing the components of Chinese words as well asapplying some examples from relative books, this essay reveals us the real meaning of the unitwords in ancient times and which also gives us a glimpse of the development of economic andculture of the ancient society. At the same time, the paper also elaborates the importance ofunits of measurement in the development of society by comparing the changes of unit wordsfrom the ancient times and the present ones.
