| Patrick White was a famous writer in Australia. Through intensive reading as wellas in-depth analyzing the five novels and one autobiography of White, comparing hispersonality traits, this thesis mainly focuses on the interpretation of the loneliness inWhite’s works. This thesis is composed of four chapters.The introduction mainly introduces the background of Patrick and his works, andthe research situation of Patrick and his works at home and abroad,which make theresearch value of this thesis clearly in the view of loneliness. In the first chapter I sumup four main theme implications that embody the lonely feeling of White’s novels.The second chapter reveals the lonely feeling in the characters’ of Patrick’s novels byclassifying the different loneliness states of them. Then I try to find the answers of lifethat made by Patrick. In the third chapter, I want to find the reason of the lonelinessfeeling by investigating Patrick’s time and the region he lived and his experience andliterary thought. In the end, the thesis makes a conclusion of the Humanistic appealwhich Patrick wanted to express by the strong flavor of loneliness. |
