Control our live is one of the strongest human motives. Self-control was definedas overcoming or suppressing the inherent behavior, desire, emotion or the behaviorthat prevent us to achieve our goals. Self-regulatory failure is a common phenomenonin the real life. So it’s quite important to explore some methods to overcome theego-depletion. This research was based on the self-determination theory of motivation.Improve participants’ motivation level by evoking a sense of individual autonomy andself-efficacy in order to examine the role of motivation for ego-depletioncompensation, which can provide an effective way to reduce the ego-depletion.Therefore, there are three experiments in the research. In the first experiment, weused Stroop task as the initial self-control task, through comparing participantsmemory capacity in the relatively high-loss group and low-loss group. so as to verifythe existence of ego-depletion effect. In the second experiment,it was selected88participants and designed with2×2between-person levels of analysis, by evokingindividual sense of autonomy and controlled to stimulate their motivation.Thuscomparing the participants of this two group in memory capacity. In the thirdexperiment,it was selected80participants and designed with2×2between-personlevels of analysis, by evoking individual self-efficacy to stimulate their motivationlevel, in order to examine the role of motivation in the ego-depletion,Thuscomparing the participants of this two group in memory capacity. The results showed that:(1)Ego-depletion existed in the cognitive domains. In the state of ego-depletion,a decline working memory capacity in the individuals.(2)It’s based on the theory of self-determined motivation, to meet individualpsychological needs of autonomy may inspire strong motivation level of theindividual so as to supplement individual for mental energy, thereby reducing theextent of ego-depletion.(3) According to the theory of self-determined motivation, to meet individualpsychological needs of self-efficacy can inspire individual high level of motivation.which can compensate for the loss of resources of individual, thereby reducing theextent of ego-depletion.
