The Study Of O’ Connor’s Ecological Marxism Theory Under The Perspective Of Historical Materialism

The purpose of this paper is to analysis and summarize James O’Connor ecology marxism theory. O’Connor, the contemporary leading figure of ecological marxism in north American, his representative work is the Natural Causes—Ecological Marxism, which is the research of one of the important works in the contemporary western ecological marxism. In this book, he introduced the "Culture" and "Natural" to the theory of historical materialism, reconstructed historical materialism, formed his ecological marxism theory.And on this basis, through the criticism of the capitalism, the theory is introduced into the ecological political philosophy, and formed his theory of ecological socialism.In this paper, O’Connor ecology marxism theory mainly include four aspects, and form four chapters. The first chapter mainly narrates O’Connor reconstruct the traditional of historical materialism, including the reason that O’Connor reconstruct of traditional historical materialism, the criticism of traditional historical materialism and the traditional construction of historical materialism, culture and nature.The second chapter researches O’Connor used the historical materialism methodology to criticize the ecological of the capitalism, including the double crisis of capitalism and criticism and the root cause analysis of the double crisis of capitalism.The third chapter studies the O’Connor’s ecological political philosophy. Ecological socialism is the necessary way to solve the ecological crisis, chiefly includes the essential difference between the socialist countries and capitalist countries, ecological socialism replaces the traditional socialism and head for the ecological socialism. The fourth chapter discusses the theory and the practical significance of O’Connor ecological marxism theory and its limitations. By systematically investigating the O’Connor ecological marxism theory, we obtain that the contemporary ecological marxism must be basing on the major issues of realistic social and giving a voice timely.
