Language is a cultural symbol. One of the most important tasks of theinternational promotion of Chinese language is to spread Chinese culture. TheAnalects of Confucius is one of the main sources of Chinese traditional ideology andculture. Idiom is not only the essence of language, but also the carrier of culture. Tointroduce the Analects of Confucius idiom to foreigners is the important way andeffective method of spreading Chinese excellent traditional culture. Due to the hugenumber of Chinese idiom and the interest and difficulty ambivalence foreign learnersof Chinese harbor, so the overseas teaching idioms should be classified and gradedteaching.After the research target is determined in this paper, we divide Analects idiomsinto “determined”,”self-cultivation”,“erudite” and “serve the country” four categoriesaccording to the achievement of contemporary Chinese College Students. We dividethem into A, B, C, D four reference levels according to the Character grade syllabus,and then the Analects idioms would be classified as “mentality culture”,“historyculture”,“Chinese-character culture”,”thinking culture” and so on. We try to carryout the teaching experiments of the Analects idioms by setting an independentoverseas course, and achieved a certain degree of experience and lessons finall.This essay is composed of the following parts:Chapter One is a brief introduction. It mainly answers the latter questions:What’s the reason for this research? What’s the object in this research essay? What’sthe final purpose and how to achieve it? What’s expectations and so on.Chapter Two is a general survey of the research status on Chineseidioms-teaching to foreigners both in practice and theories such as the NewConception on the Separation Language from Lexicology, the ontological study ofidioms, its resources and culture, the word-based theory and the present situations ofChinese culture, also as the basic train target for all Chinese students: to embracesmart and great dreams in his mind, to learn more both in practice and theory from thesociety, to do much effective and respectable things for people of the country, etc.Chapter Three, together with Chapter four, are the specific details of thisresearch essay. Here it introduces about the famous linguist Mr. Chen Guanglei andhis theory’s Criteria (in1992)for classification of idioms which derived from theAnalects and list different sort of idioms.Chapter Four is about some idiom-teaching practice cases for non-Chinese speakers. Accordingly, this research essay in it’s perspective to suggest the ideathat the idioms which derives from the Analects need to be designed as a uniquecourse for teaching.Chapter Five gives a summary and a further discussion. It summarizes theoverseas idiom teaching experience and lessons, and points out the problems that needfurther researching, and finally it calls for more oversea experiments on Chineseidiom-teaching.
