Embroidery is one of the traditional craft arts of outstanding national culture inChina. It can be found in every aspects of their lives and the Chinese ethnicnationalities commonly use it in a wide variety of works of art. It is presentindirectly in historical development, the economy, life customs of the people Itreflects the lifestyle and aesthetic ideas as well as the cultural identity of thesepeople in material form.Uighur embroidery has accompanied the Uighur for more than1,000years. Itsexquisite handmade art expresses strong ethnic characteristics to the world, andseems to exude a seductive fragrance. Qumul Uighur embroidery from Qumul, inparticular, is unusual, with a unique style and color. This traditional folk art isdefined not only by its colors and patterns, but also in the symbolic meaningsconveyed to artists and recipients. This paper will explore the meanings carried inthe embroidery pattern, along with the ways that heritage lives on in the Uighurembroidery in Qumul.The article first examines the research scholars and cultural studies at home andabroad for Qumul Uighur embroidery, pointing out that there are fewanthropological studies of Qumul Uighur embroidery, even if there are some papersor monographs that mention Qumul Uyghur embroidery, and limit themselves to theembroidery process, color, pattern, and the hidden meaning of the groupsembroidery. This paper applies the theory of symbolic anthropology to studyQumul’s Uighur embroidery culture, trying to make some explanation of the formand symbolism of the cultural symbols of Qumul Uighur embroidery.The first chapter describes the status of the research study at home and abroad.The second chapter discusses the Uighur embroidery groups in Qumul and theirsocial and cultural characteristics, including Qumul Uighur social groups and theircharacteristics and social status. This chapter also involves the industrial faith andreligious obligations of Qumul Uighur in the embroidery industry. Chapter three [isthe] introduces the characteristics and patterns of Qumul Uighur embroidery style,including functional classification and its application range in Qumul Uyghurembroidery, as well as the traditional materials of embroidery, the tools, and changes.The fourth chapter is concerned with the heritage and the role of the Qumul Uighurembroidery, the Qumul Uighur embroidery in local literature, the social significanceand influence as well as the heritage in Qumul Uighur embroidery. The final chapterspecifically looks at the contemporary development and problems of the QumulUighur embroidery, and proposes a number of measures for these problems. In theEpilogue there is a summary of Qumul Uighur embroidery culture and the culturalinformation reflected in the embroidery.
