Owing to cultivation and educational research on Master of Translation and Interpreting still in theexploration stage in China, this thesis is combined with practical competence from pedagogical perspective,the translation competence model of PATCE and constructivism theory, to define the connation of thepractical competence and construct the structural model of practical competence of MTI. On the basis ofsystematic investigation and scientific analysis, the paper takes attempt to explore the structural model ofpractical competence of MTI, finds the relationships between the various factors and surveys into currentsituation of practical competence cultivation of MTI, aiming at provide reference to the development ofpractical competence, especially in curriculum design for MTI education and the development of itspractical competence.The research focus on three questions to conduct, namely, what is the connotation of practicalcompetence of MTI? What factors are included in the structural model of practical competence of MTI?How about the current situation of its cultivation in MTI education? By virtue of collecting the literatureview, the connotation of practical competence of MTI can be defined that MTI postgraduates are enable touse their personal professional translation knowledge and skills to solve practical problems in the field ofprofessional translation. There are three components in practical competence of MTI, including the factorof common competence, the factor of special competence, and the applied factor. Data analysis shows thatthere are27sub-components composed the practical competence of MTI. Furthermore, the thesis usesexploratory factor analysis to get8components, which is made up of the preceding27sub-componentsrelying on factor loading matrix. With the help of investigation into the current situation of MTI education,there are some problems existing in the circle of MTI education and research, for instance, the curriculumsetting is old; the quality of teaching materials need to ascend, especially the shortage of professionaltextbooks; teaching infrastructure construction is not perfect; the power of faculty should be strengtheneddue to the lack of rich experience in translation. As for these issues, the study tries to construct trainingmode on practical competence of MTI based on constructivism.There are six parts in this paper. First of all, the paper introduces the background, significance andpurpose of the research, combined the changes of translation industry with social demands for translationtalents. By collecting literature review on MTI abroad and at home, the paper then analysis the currentsituation of MTI education and problems currently taking place in the circle of MTI education and research. In the third part, the study introduces practical competence from pedagogical perspective, the translationcompetence model from PATCE and constructivism theory, and defines the connotation about the practicalcompetence of MTI. In the following part, research design is included, involving research questions,research methods, research objects and instruments. In the fifth part, the thesis analyzes and discusses thecollected data so as to build the structural model of practical competence of MTI, survey into its currentsituation and give some suggestions for the existing problems. The last part is the conclusion of this study.
