Mother tongue transfer in foreign language learning has always beena main problem haunting the learners and the language researchers;meanwhile, grammar is the basis for learners’ foreign language study.This paper, starting with examining Tibetan college students’ Englishgrammar in writing, with the related theory and predecessors’ researchfindings in the research area of second language acquisition, in the waysof questionnaire survey and composition analysis, researches anddiscusses the mother tongue’s transfer influences on the Tibetannon-English majors’English grammar learning.Firstly, this paper investigates the situation of Tibetan non-Englishmajors’ English grammar, as well as the mother tongue’s influences onthe Tibetan non-English majors’ English grammar learning, then analysesthe typical and representative interfering errors and their reasons in detail,lastly discusses the factors resulting in transfer, looks for rules and putsforward some rational suggestions and countermeasures for Englishgrammar learners in overcoming the influences of mother tongue transfer.In the first part, this paper briefly introduces the English educationbackground in Tibetan area, points out the importance of research onmother tongue transfer for Tibetan college students’ English grammarlearning, and thus introduces this paper’s research meaning, purpose and the main research problems.In the second part, the relative theoretical basis and some terms insecond language acquisition are introduced in brief, some relativeconcepts are explained and defined, as well as the interlingua theory andtransfer theories, etc, and at last the current research situation at home andabroad is retrospected.In the third part, the object of this research and the specific datacollecting process are introduced in detail, and then the questionnairesurvey, writing test and statistical result are analyzed and discussed, thetype of error analysis is defined.The fourth part is the key part of this paper. At this part, the currentsituation of Tibetan non-English majors’grammar learning is retrospectedand analyzed, as well as the mother tongue transfer’s degree of influenceon English grammar’s learning,lastly, by mother tongue transfer theory,the most typical error type at all levels is analyzed, the reason for thiserrors is described and analyzed deeply.The fifth part, according to the analysis results, puts forward someteaching suggestions.The sixth part gets a conclusion, points out thelimits of this paper, gives some advice for future research, and offerssome basic methods for problem resolving.
