The Study Of Daryl Koehn’s Economic Ethics Thought

As one of the most outstanding business ethicists of North America, Daryl Koehn, the director of Economic Ethics Research Center in University of St. Thomas, Houston, Texas, has been engaged in the research of Economic Ethics for more than thirty years. He has made a significant contribution to the development of Western Economies Ethics.This article attempts to make a comprehensive, in-depth discussion on Daryl Koehn’s book "Local Wisdom and Global Business Ethics", and to investigate Daryl Koehn’s Economic Ethics thought, which reveals the important position of her theory in Western Economic Ethics academia, and its impact on the development of current China’s socialist market economic and Economy Ethics.The article is divided into four parts:the first part is the introduction, which contains the main purpose of writing this article, the research status, research ideas and methods.Part two:the background of Daryl Koehn’s Economic Ethics thought. Due to the accelerating process of economic globalization, countries all over the world have got huge economic benefits and the room for development. But it also leads to many social problems, of which the most prominent one is the growing cultural conflicts. If this problem cannot be handled correctly, it will affect the efficiency of enterprises, and reduce their core competitiveness. In this context, in order to better address the cultural conflict in the process of economic globalization, Daryl Koehn puts forward her own economic ethics. In addition, the emergence of Daryl Koehn’s Economic Ethics thought also has its inherent ideological roots. Economic liberalism of Adam Smith, and the appeal of academia that economics should pay more attention to the ethical issues in the economic development, had both played a role in promoting the emergence of Daryl Koehn’s Economic Ethics thought.Part three:takes Daryl Koehn’s book "Local Wisdom and Global Business Ethics" as the analysis object, and to illustrate the main content of Daryl Koehn’s Economic Ethics thought. First, this paper evaluates the superiority of Daryl Koehn’s Economic Ethics thought. As Daryl Koehn’s Economic Ethics thought has been considered significant in the Western academia, it is foreseeable that her theory certainly has its advantages. Then the article suggests that in the background of building a socialist market economy in China, we should pay attention to the important role of traditional culture in economic development, and adhere to the basic national policy of governing the country by law. Furthermore, we should be more concerned about the studies on the influence of Chinese culture on Chinese economic development, considering the ethical issues in the economic development from a global perspective, so as to promote the harmonious development of China’s economy and make due contributions.
