People’s understanding of translation competence has extended from the early single linguistic competence to an organic, dynamic ability complex consists of a variety of skills, mechanisms and factors. Under the background of globalization, more and more comprehensive and specific translation competences are demanded in the translation market. In the new era, how to educate more qualified translators and how to make the vast network resources and the variety of modern electronic tools serve the modern translators have become the new challenge in the translation industry.Early studies about corpus and translator education are mainly found in Meta published in1998, in which most of the people are exploring the issue of translation universal, few of them are about the applying of corpus in translator education. However, there have been scholars who advocate the ability to effectively use corpus as a measure of contemporary translation competence and the standard of practical translation level. The greatest pedagogic value of the instrument lies, as Zanettin (2007) suggests, in its thought-provoking potential, rather then question-answering. Previously, most of the applied researches of corpus are confined to the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) corpus-based, especially empirical research on the influences of the small-scale DIY corpus on professional translation capabilities. The present study will escape the complicated construction of corpus to explore the corpus-based translator competence education. The author claims that there are many existing corpora in the internet could be borrowed as common translation tools just like the dictionaries we usually use. In the literature review of this paper, a careful introduction was given to describe the translation competence, a brief to the corpus concept and the combination progress of corpus and translator education. Translator’s competence education is analyzed in the context of different translation teaching model. Is adding the application of corpora to the translation teaching can resolve the deficiencies of traditional teaching model? Can the corpus instrumental competence apparently improve the translator’s many other translation competences? This research paper gives the definite answer. Analyses and strategies are illustrated from the perspective of applications of different kinds of corpora in translator education; the improvements of business translator’s competences are specially analyzed, these competences contain the subject-field understanding, target language production and instrumental competence.Overall, this paper aims to improve the people’s awareness of using instrumental tools, and hopes to bring some enlightenment to the translation teaching. It is a pity, the present research does not carry out some tests to resolve the problem of corpus-based translator competence education, and verify the more specific competences improvement of business translator. With the spread and the development research of corpus, these aspects are the prospects for the future studies.
