Rachmaninoff is a famous pianist, composer and conductor, as well as a master in Russian romantic music in the20th Century. He combined romanticism with Russian folk music perfectly. He created a unique style of music by rolled personal characteristic feelings of music and exquisite pianism into the music. At the same time, Rachmaninoff found a new method of composing and a new music concept. Therefore, he developed a school for music style of his own. Rachmaninoff made a prominent contribution to the development of piano music, especially piano concerto which is a kind of genre form of his literature creation.The piano concerto no.2(piano concerto no.2in c minor), is one of the important masterpieces of Rachmaninoff, created in1900-1901, which witnessed Rachmaninoff’ works from his trough to glory days, as well as the picture of his life experience. Oriental color is showed perfectly under the changeful harmony language circumstance with its melodious melody and a strong Russian national style.This paper is divided into four chapters to discuss The Piano Concerto No.2by Rachmaninoff. The fifth chapter is the conclusion.The first chapter is to analyze Rachmaninoff from his piano music, overall style (art career, the times background, piano works, features) and the factor that caused his music style.The second chapter is to study and analyze the spirit of The Piano Concerto No.2and the music image Rachmaninoff created from its music characteristicsThe third chapter is the analysis of The Piano Concerto No.2. It mainly discusses Rachmaninoff from creative thinking, process, and technique in order to reflect the works with his strong Rachmaninoff style.The fourth chapter summarizes several points of The Piano Concerto No.2such as key technique problems (many piano textures and playing methods of chord eight degrees, the speed transition, the use of pedal), in order to grasp of Rachmaninoff’s music style better, and interpret his works more exquisitely.
