The holiday customs are major vehicles of traditional Chineseculture, as well as the very essence of traditional Chinese values like family value,respecting the old loving the young, loyalty and filial piety and “carefully attend thefuneral rites of parents and follow them when gone with due sacrifices” etc. Thoseholiday customs from late Qing Dynasty to the period of Republic of China areparticularly and clearly written down in local historical records in Bashu Area,through the analysis and research of them, we can try to recover the daily lifedetails of deceased Bashu dwellers, that will further contribute to the developmentof socialist culture and ethics and provide more tourist projects in the target area,what’s more, this research is in accord with the national strategy of improvingChina’s culture soft power.In this thesis,115books and local documents from the year Jiaqing5(QingDynasty) to the year Minguo36(period of Republic of China) are carefully analyzed,and the research of the holiday customs during this150years is thoroughlyconducted, with the combination of folklore knowledge, and starting with theholiday customs, the scene of Bashu social life during the studied period has gottenrecovered to some extent.This thesis introduces and studies the holiday customs in Bashu Area in fourchapters.Chapter one: The preliminary introduction to the connection between theformation of Chinese people’s sense of time and Bashu holiday customs and localdwellers’ daily life, through the analysis of the concept of time, the origin ofholiday customs and its social functions.Chapter two: Starting with the social situation and demographic structure inBashu Area during the studied period of time, a discussion about the Bashu localhistorical documents and the holiday customs, the holiday customs and people’s daily life is conducted and demonstrated.Chapter three: Through the analysis of the relations between free rural market,urban businesses and holiday customs, the study of governmental prohibition bans,the policy of solar calendar by Republic of China and the influence of migration onholiday customs etc. the impact of economical, political and social factors onholiday customs are discussed and analyzed.Chapter four: the practical meaning of the topic discussed in this thesis: touristprojects exploration and development based on holiday customs in Bashu Area andthe popularization boost of positive Chinese traditional values.Conclusion: the result, the goal and the further possibility of the discussedtopic in the essay.
