An Analysis On The Role Of Interpreters In Liaison Interpreting

In the process of liaison interpreting, there involves the two sides and the interpreter. The communication largely depends on the interpretation and explanation of the interpreters. With the wide spread of liaison interpreting, the role of interpreters become much more important. In various cases, interpreters not only convey the messages, but also need to take appropriate measures in various situations to ensure the effective communication and meet the ultimate purpose. It requires the interpreters should be very much aware of the role of themselves.Concerning this problem, the thesis basically makes an analysis and research on the role of interpreters during the process of liaison interpreting. The author will choose a task of being a liaison interpreter as the research case, in order to have a deeper analysis. We can see in different situations, the role can be quite multiple and various. Thus, this research will conclude the features of liaison interpreting, and discuss this issue in three specific cases, and try to analyze the roles in different perspectives. The cases involve how to tackle with questionings, disputes and challenges. Through the introduction and detailed analysis, this research will find out the other roles of interpreters.According to the case analysis, the dissertation concludes that, as the role between two parties, an interpreter should accordingly adjust the attitude, solve the disputes and try to undertake the pressure in order to tackle the challenge and reach the ultimate purpose. The author hopes this dissertation will draw more and more attention of researchers and scholars on the study of liaison interpreting, in order to make deeper study and research. On the other hand, liaison interpreters should have a clear and broad understanding of the role and function of this profession, which will enhance the quality and efficiency of this sacred profession.
