This thesis aims to analyze American author Mark Twain’s famous novel TheAdventures of Huckleberry Finn (1885) from the perspective of initiation theme.Through discussing the procedures of rites of initiation, the guiders in rites and theinfluences from environments of rites, this thesis concerns Huck’s development froman innocent boy to an experienced teenager. Huck’s initiation is not a kind ofaccidents, it is a profound result of delicate designs by many sides. Mark Twain usesrites of initiation as an archetype in novel to present both the initiationcommonalities of human beings and the individualities affected by particular group.
