In retrospect to the Chinese film history in the20’s, when the European and American films were dominant forces, the Chinese film industry merely finished its preliminary experimentation. With the awakening of national consciousness, and the development of Chinese film industry, the entrepreneurs became more conscious of business and the companies realized the increasing importance of distribution and commercialization. Newspapers and magazines, as the major carriers for information, have enormous influence in the public. As a result, they provide the audience and the industry ideal platforms for commercialization and communication, greatly promoting the development of the Chinese film industry. The20’s movie ads in print culture changes along with the development of the films, the market competitions in the20s of the movie ads also respond to the development of present state of newspapers. As the market competition intensified, every aspect from the contents of advertisements to advertising have been diversified.From the newspaper and magazine, and pictorial film advertising in the20’s era, this thesis analyze the functionalities of newspaper and magazines for the20’s movie advertising in the context of a certain social development. Based on the advertising background, subject, content and form of analysis and summary, we try to outline its development context diagram in order to reflect the development of China’s film appearance in the20’s.
