On Beauty Transference Of Gladys Yang’s The Border Town From The Perspective Of Translation Aesthetics Object

The Border Town is an outstanding novel of Shen Congwen, a well-known writer in China. The novel is rich in content and possesses a beautiful form with pastoral flavor and strong artistic influence. Up to now, The Border Town has been translated into various languages by different translators in the world, including three English versions. Scholars in China have made researches on them with different translation theories, but few from the perspective of translation aesthetics. How to represent the images and ideorealm in the target texts has been a goal pursued by many translators for a long time, which is also the topic of the thesis.In recent years, the interdisciplinary research represents a tendency of current researches, and the combination of translation and other disciplines has drawn many translators’attention. The integration of translation and aesthetics has also made great progress, so translation studies from the perspective of aesthetics are more common. Different schools of western aesthetic theory have been introduced to the studies of translation aesthetics. Though the studies of translation aesthetics provide theory basis for literary translation, they are not applied to translation practices.Therefore, the purpose of this thesis is to use the theory of translation aesthetics to explore the beauty in the translation process of Gladys’s The Border Town from two aspects:formal system and non-formal system. The formal system consists of sound, lexis, and syntax and the non-formal system includes image and ideorealm. Many typical examples are analyzed to highlight the important role of translation aesthetics objects in literary translation. Through the exploration of this work, lots of experience and ways can be offered to other English translation of literary works.
