Mr. Liu’s "religion" series was created with his impulse of religious ideas and his deep understanding of religious elements of original Pipa’s tradition. The sequent creation of the three series, from "Life" to "Idyll", then to "religion", is a process of cultural self-consciousness and the spiritual sublimation, as well as a new stage of Mr.Liu’s career.The thesis consists of three chapters, namely the history of Pipa and its relation with Buddhism, Mr. Liu’s religious thoughts and the analysis of part of works of "religion" series. It mainly focuses on the analysis of language points and lines in these traditional works (e.g "chensui","puanzhou") and the analysis of Mr. Liu’s application of new techniques of innovation, the intention of creation and music styles in works of "Religion" series ("dishuiguanyin"、"baimatuojing"、"xiqingluohan"), the search of religion in the original Pipa music, and the necessity of the creation of "Religion" series.Instead of being the pure temples music, the music of Liu’s "Religion" Series is the music created with the technical language of Pipa to convey feelings and purify minds, calling back the genuine essence of human nature-----truth, goodness and beauty.
