Taoism is a native Chinese own religion, which was born in China, grew up inChina, a real product of the land of China, and people are more friendly to call it asChinese religion. Taoism has a very long history which is from witchcraft in theancient and astrology after the development of the Qin and Han Dynasties; it is saidthat Huang Lao Taoist was the predecessor of denominations. Taoist music iscomplete in system, unique in style, and its ritual music plays an important role in thefasting rituals. At present, the national common traditional rhyme “ten rhyme” iswidely used in the. Besides, various local rhymes were formed from thecharacteristics of language and music in different regions that has made prosperousand diverse sights in Taoist ritual music of China.Based on field investigation, deep interviews, case analysis and otherethnomusicological research methods, this article has made a comprehensive studyand deep research in the history, ritual process, ritual music and the new rhyme ofPeng Ying Palace in Shenyang of China. The content has three chapters: Chap1, anintroduction of Peng Ying Palace through the fieldwork by the author; Chap2, anexhibition about the fasting ritual process and music of Peng Ying Palace; Chap3,studies on the new rhyme and the fasting ritual music of Peng Ying Palace.Through this study, the author firstly makes a brief introduction of Peng Ying Palace;secondly shows the basic status of the only Kun Road Taoist temple in Northeast ofChina and its ritual music; thirdly explores the characteristics and the ritual functionsof the new rhyme. It is the first study on the new rhyme of Taoist music in the musiccircles, so it will make an important contribution to the diversified development of theethnomusic of China. However, due to the invasion of modern culture, it’s beendeclining for Taoist music to develop or work further. This kind of study helps toprotect Taoist ritual music to inherit and spread.
