In this internationalized society featuring frequent exchanges among countries, simultaneous interpreting is playing an increasingly important role in the conferences of major international institutions. Simultaneous interpreters need to orally re-express thoughts and feelings of the original speech almost at the same speed with that of the speaker, which is a huge challenge for simultaneous interpreters to produce high quality interpretation under such tense time pressure. This paper discusses about the training methods and field techniques of improving the quality of simultaneous interpreting from the perspective of deverbalization.Deverbalization means ignoring the surface meaning, and retaining and memorizing the comprehended content to pass the message the original discourse conveys. Interpreters are required to quickly respond to the original discourse in a short time and interpret almost at the same time, so interpreters should not stick to the original words and interpret word by word, and they need to present the message of the original discourse in the idiomatic form of target language. In this case, the audience could be better able to receive the information, and the interpreter is not bound by the original discourse with increased flexibility in choosing proper diction. This paper firstly introduces the connotation of deverbalization and domestic and foreign researches on it, revealing the necessity of deverbalization in this highly intense, fast-paced and challenging activity. Then this paper defines the quality standard of simultaneous interpreting and proposes that accuracy, clarity and faithfulness are the basic elements in guaranteeing high SI quality. The paper goes on elaborating the training methods in improving interpreters’ deverbalization ability and specific field techniques to improve SI quality, namely the technique waiting and anticipation which are adopted in sense-catching process and the technique addition, omission and conversion which are applied in sense-expressing process.Chinese is mainly paratactic, English is mainly hypotactic, and they belong to two different language structures. Interpreters are interpreting while listening, so it is necessary for them to follow the principle of syntactic linearity for the purpose of smoothly pushing the process of interpretation, which needs techniques, such as addition, omission, converting part of speech to achieve. Some sentences are difficult to follow the principle of syntactic linearity, indicating that the interpreter should realize when to begin interpreting, and that what specific sentence structure of the target language should be chosen in accordance of the content anticipated by the interpreter. This paper is helpful to inspire interpreters to convey information more effectively and timely so as to improve the overall quality of simultaneous interpreting.
