Priming Clean States Have An Effect On Moral Judgment

In today’s society, ethical issues has become the focus of us, sometimes people have different views of the same event, the moral intuitions theory and dual-process theory of moral judgment broke the traditional rationalist models, and proposed that moral judgments are produced by the rapid moral intuitions, many studies have shown that intuitive factors such as emotion would affect our moral judgments.Clean as a opposite state to disgust also have an impact on moral judgment, in this paper, we take a research on the influence of clean to moral judgment, discussed the effect on moral judgment and the impact mechanisms when activated the clean state which is related to environment/target or to oneself. This paper have two experiments, experiment1is divided into experiment a and experiment b, Experiment a ask participants to imagine a situation which is described by a material to priming two different types of clean states, to found the different effect on moral judgment to moral dilemma events. Experiment b priming two different types of clean states through the actual operation, to found the different effect on moral judgment to moral dilemma events. In experiment2, the moral events are divided into two types, the moral events and the immoral events, investigate the influence of two clean states to different types of moral judgment. At the same time, we use the ranking task and lexical decision task to measure the moral self-image and clean concept schemata, and investigate whether two clean states influence moral judgment through different mechanism. This research mainly draws the following conclusion:(1) The clean state which is related to oneself made the judgment to moral dilemmas more strict, but the clean state which is related to environment/target made the judgment more lenient.(2)The clean state which is related to oneself have an effect on our judgments to immoral events, made the judgments more strict, but it have no effect on the judgment to moral events. The clean state which is related to environment/target have an effect on our judgments to moral events, made the judgment more loose, but it have no effect on the judgment to immoral events.(3) The clean state which is related to oneself influence the judgment to the immoral events through moral self-image, and the clean state which is related to environment/target have an impact on the judgment to moral events through clean concept schemata.
