This is a translation project report on Automobile Fuel Economy Standards: Impacts,Efficiency, and Alternatives, which expounds on the efficiency and impacts of automobileeconomy as well as alternatives put forward by policy makers to improve fuel economy. Afteranalyzing the source text, the author finds it is featured by technical terms and difficult longsentences. The text will be translated by following the three rules, namely skopos rule, intratextualcoherence and intertextual coherence based on Skopostheorie, adopting such translation methods asfootnotes, amplification, omission, sentence division and inversion to represent the languagecharacteristics of the original text and to deliver the information in a comprehensive and accuratemanner.This report is composed of four parts. The first part introduces the background, the goal and thesignificance of this translation project. The second part explains the background information ofsource text, which includes the description of the authors, the content and the languagecharacteristics. The third part analyzes the difficult points and come up with the appropriate methodsof translation. The last part summarizes the whole translation process, the lessons learned and alsopoint out the unsolved problems.
