Liu De as the son of Emperor Jing of Han Dynasty was established as the king of Hejianbefore the scene emperor two years(155BC).In the twenty-six year of his reign,because ofhis"intellectual virtues", he was endowed with the posthumous title of "offer the king" andwan known as "Hejian Xianwang". He is a famous confucian and bibliophile in the WesternHan Dynasty. He is not only the leader during the glorious period of He Jian State, andoccupies a very important position in the history of the academic development of the HanDynasty. Historic achievements of Liu De were contained in the annals of history,besides,Hehas been to got people’s praise.In the Western Han Dynasty,under the background of Confucianism suppressed for along time,Liu De independent courage to advocate Confucianism with extraordinary courageand boldness,thus,this laid the foundation for the revival of Confucianism.Xianwang Liu Deloved reading,added essays Zhou Guan and set up the Doctor of Mao Shi and Zuo Shi ChunQiu in an official capacity, as well,he has made a great contribution to promote thedevelopment of confucian classics.The center of Confucianism which was formed under theleadership of Liu De not only had a significant impact on the academic of Hejian andCentral,but also contributed to the heritage of Confucian cultural as well as the Hejianculture..Liu De as a bibliophile spent his hole life on the collection and collation of ancient booksbefore Qin Dynasty, including Zhou Guan,Shang Shu, Li, Li Ji, Meng Zi,Lao Zi and so on,which almost equals the books of Central. He guided by the Confucianism and insist on theIdea of openness.The method and principle of collecting books has a significance to themodern library practice.The article also tries to analyse private collection features through thecollection activities of Liu De in the Western Han Dynasty.In the revival of Confucianism and the process of collection,Liu De always uphold theattitude and spirit of"seek truth from facts", so the point of article also lies in this paper.Through discussing the meaning of "seek truth from facts", it can be more clearly understand- ing of the historical contribution made by Liu De and realize its far-reaching influence onChinese traditional culture.
