Wu Qi(1619-1694), whose celebrity name was yuanci, and later was called oftingweng(means someone who is deaf), his alias was “the poet of southern red bean”.Originally from Anhui province, since his father’s generation had moved to Yangzhou. Wu Qiwas a young intelligent and prodigy, who was really good at writing poems as being fiveyears old, in the eleventh year of Shunzhi(1654), he was found by the Qing Governmentthrough the way of being a tribute student, and was awarded to be an Toneri of the CentralSecretariat in Hongwen Pavilion, later on, he was promoted to be the chief of the MilitaryOffice and the vice chief of the Military-picking Department, after the fifth year ofKangxi(1666), he was appointed as Huzhou magistrate, however, three years later, he wasdismissed in the eighth year of Kangxi(1669), after all these things happened, he was nolonger to be a officer again, and was busy with making friends, stayed poor lifelong.As a famous literature at the beginning of the Qing dynasty, Wu Qi has a certainachievement in prose, poetry and drama in theory and creation, and really has a quiteimportant influence on the literary field at that time. He makes friends with many celebritiesduring his lifetime, and the fashion of poems’ responsory in Huzhou, which is dominated byhim, is also spread aroud the literary field in Jiangnan(regions south of the Yangtze River),that is to say, Wu Qi’s life experience and social history can be considered as a subtle versionof the Qing dynasty literary figure. But unfortunately, Wu Qi’s status and great influence hasbeen rare recognized and attentioned, neither did the "silent majority", which is representedby him,-the third type of person, who are out of two kinds of people called Yiming(adherents of a former dynasty) and Erchen (an official who retains his position aftercapitulating to the new dynasty), also has been neglected by the researchers.In this article, Wu Qi will be considered as the representative of the general scholarsbeyond the “Yiming” and the “Erchen”. By detailed study on Wu Qi of his communicationpoems and the reasons of being an official of the Qing dynasty, try to find out the Wu Qi’scommonness with the times, to spy out state of mind and survival from the literati like him,also their inherits and reflections on the traditional, and the feelings of the Ming dynasty, theestrangement and acception. This article select the typical stories and characters about WuQi’s life and social intercourse, aiming to reflect the Wu Qi’s life experience and thoughts andfeelings in new perspective, in order to depict the course of his life and his spirit portrait, and deeply show the literati which is peripheral in the complicated social reality of Ming andQing dynasty, which is represented by Wu Qi. This thesis is divided into four chapters todiscuss the related issues about Wu Qi’s life and social intercourse.Chapter One, Wu Qi’s research overviewThis chapter summarizes and narrates kinds of research about Wu Qi in recent years,establishes his status and importance of literary history, and analyzes the reasons of his notconcern, in order to broaden the research horizons, giving Wu Qi’s like poets more attention,such as discovering hidden-thinking-resources in a dormant state, completing the frameworkof scholars in the Qing dynasty, paint a more vivid and detailed picture of scholars in theQing dynasty.Chapter Two, The study of Wu Qi’s lifeThis chapter is try to make the Confucianism mixture experience of Wu Qi’s seventy-sixlife of as the background, with its unique "official cycle" as the writing clue, to show he’sboth traditional and special life, clean up his life’s veins and his official life’s up-and-down,reveals the complex and multiple thoughts and feelings behind his behaviors.Chapter Three, The research about Wu Qi’s houseworkThis chapter is try to consider Wang Chaohong’s book named Wu Qi’s chronicle as themain reference, according to the related literature and historical data, makes a detailed textualresearch and deduction about the ranking problems of Wu Qi’s sons-in-law and his wives, andfinally draw the conclusion of correct ranking and names of his sons-in-law and wives, rectifythe mistakes of Wu Qi’s chronicle.Chapter Four, The study of Wu Qi’s social intercourseThis chapter considers the situation of Wu Qi’s social intercourse as the research object,mainly discusses the beginning-and-end of Wu Qi and Wu Weiye, Wu Qi and Gong Dingzi,and start with Aishantai Chuh, the most important social event in the history of his socialintercourse, revealing the huge from the slight, in the hope of further study of the contact anddevelopment between Wu Qi and Gong’s famous friends’ circle, for a more in-depthexcavation and show on history of his social intercourse.Chapter Five, Remnants of the complete works of LinhuitangThis chapter consider the book Wu Qi’s chronicle written by Wang Chaohong as a trullyimportant reference, by searching related literature and data, and make a centralized sorting and proofreading Wu Qi’s uncollected poetry which were listed in Wu Qi’s chronicle but notmentioned in the complete works of Linhuitang, and attach all of them entirely to the end ofthe thesis.
