The Influence Of The Beat Generation On Thecomplex Of "on The Road"of Modern Chinese Youth

The Beat Generation was a group of American writers after World War Ⅱ It was formed by a group of rebellious and wild youths who insisted the "Beat" culture, which included rejection of received standards and wild life styles unexpected by the common customs. With the development of this genre, it is no longer a simple literary group which belongs to the America society. On the contrary, it is a world cultural movement which caused a sensation in USA, even the whole western world. To sum up, it is a major earthquake in literature and cultural fields.The Beat Generation has effected half century from the native American land to China, which is far away from America. The Chinese youth was been influenced by The Beat Generation and On the Road written by Jack Kerouac, and began to impersonate The Beat Generation and to explore the true life meaning "on the road".After it was introduced in China, On the Road written by Kerouac influenced Chinese youth deeply, which as the result of the cultural school itself and its gradually development. Therefore, what Chinese youth pursued was similar with the way The Chinese Generation believed in. And both of them had the almost same background. During the cultural revolution in China, there is similar social environment with the United States, the depressive society atmosphere makes young Chinese to imitate the rebellion behavior of the "beat generation". This imitation not only embodies in behaviors, what’s more, is also embodied in the spirit, and the latter influence is more important. They lead to the complex of "on the road" of China’s youth respectively, and we can find the answer in many works of contemporary Chinese literature. Although China youth’s "on the road" complex is influenced by the "beat generation", since it belongs to different countries, there are different social environment, national psychology and cultural inheritance, so the "on the road" complex between China youth and America youth looks seemingly similar but bears different meanings in essence.
