The application of learning strategies not only helps students improve English achievement, but also cultivates students’ ability of autonomous learning, preparing for lifelong learning. With the deepening reform of foreign language teaching in higher education institutions and the development of modern education technology, the application of Web-Based learning environment will be more and more widely used in English teaching in higher education institutions. Especially in recent years, independent colleges have developed vigorously. It will have a certain guiding significance and practical value to discuss how to cultivate the using of English learning strategies of independent college students under Web-Based learning environment for this special group. However, the study of this field is insufficient. Thus, this issue becomes the main concern of this paper.The thesis, based on the relevant theories of learning strategies, adopts questionnaire and individual interview methods, makes a study of the application of English learning strategies in the Web-Based learning environment at Lijiang College of Guangxi Normal University. After that, using SPSS16.0to analyze all quantifiable data by descriptive statistics and independent samples T-Test. The research is mainly from the following four aspects:the whole situation of all subjects, similarities and differences between liberal arts and science students, male and female students and high and low achievers. The investigation draws on the following conclusions:(1) In the Web-Based learning environment, the whole situation of English learning strategies employed by sophomore students at Lijiang College of Guangxi Normal University belongs to medium level and the level of learning strategies uses is not high.(2) In the Web-Based learning environment, although there are no significant differences existing between liberal arts and science students in the use of English learning strategies, liberal arts students employ English learning strategies more frequently than science students.(3) In the Web-Based learning environment, there are significant differences between male and female students in English learning strategy use. Among the six categories of learning strategies, female students are better at employing all learning strategies.(4) In the Web-Based learning environment, there are significant differences on the cognitive and compensation strategies between high achievers and low achievers. Among the six categories of learning strategies, high achievers are better at employing all learning strategies.Finally, according to results above, this study puts forward some suggestions about conducting the strategy training on students and focusing on students’ individual differences for English teachers in independent college.
