Along with the deeply exploration and development of oil and gas field, it is very important to identify the spatial distribution of fault location.3D coherent technology played an important role in seismic fault interpretation. However, the presence of underground rock formations with large dip angle and folded stratum affected the effect of general coherent results. For example, all these circumstances caused the fault line fuzzy, thick or interrupted.This article considered the development of coherent technology at home and aboard and compared several coherent algorithms. It researched a coherent method based on the same physiognomy tracking surface. Test results showed that the coherent slice along the layer displayed more small fault lines than the original coherent slice. It solved the problem of the fault line fuzzy and thick, improved the accuracy of the fault identification and enhanced the anti-interference ability of coherent algorithm.It sometimes existed the phenomenon of interruption of fault line on3D coherent slice. The main reason is that seismic event of interruption position on both sides unaligned, waveform similar but energy great different. Coherent technology mainly highlighted the waveform similarity but ignored the difference of energy. So it caused the phenomenon of the fault line interrupted. Variance cube technology could analyze the difference of energy, regain the interrupted fault line, make up for the shortage of the coherent technology and improve the accuracy of fault identification.In the algorithm implementation process, using3D visualization technology to display3D tracking surface and coherent results, the images can be easy to intuitive observe. After the comprehensive display and analysis of the original image and the coherent image, it provided the reliable basis for the fault identification.
